Rewritten text can sound polished while subtly changing a claim. Fact checking should therefore operate at the proposition level.

Check these first

• Numbers and dates
• Named entities
• Medical, legal or financial claims
• Comparatives such as “more,” “best” or “only”
• Cause-and-effect language
• Quoted or attributed statements

For important content, extract the claims into a short checklist and verify each against the original source or a stronger primary source.
